The Culture of Excellence: Doing Everything as Unto God

Title: The Culture of Excellence: Doing Everything as Unto God

Theme: Revival

Preacher: Pastor Mat Tolentino • Date: 2026-08-02

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." — Colossians 3:23–24

Introduction:

Paul corrects the sacred-secular divide in Colossians. People often assume secular work is unimportant to God, and that only church activities qualify as sacred service. But every legitimate job, household chore, and business transaction is an act of worship when done as unto the Lord.

Point 1: Work as an Act of Worship (Unto the Lord)

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord..." — Colossians 3:23

When your primary Audience is God Himself, low effort and cutting corners become unthinkable. Excellence is your spiritual offering.

Practical Application & Example: Cleaning your workspace or submitting reports with meticulous care as if handing them directly to Jesus.

Point 2: Excellence Preaches Louder Than Words

"Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators... by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom." — Daniel 6:3

Daniel's exceptional work ethic and integrity silenced his critics and pointed an entire pagan empire to the Living God.

Practical Application & Example: Being the most reliable, punctual, and honest employee in your company.

Conclusion:

Banish mediocrity from your life. Labor with wholehearted passion for the King who gives eternal inheritance.

"Lord Jesus, forgive us for half-hearted work. Fill us with Your Spirit of excellence so that everything we touch brings honor to Your name. Amen."
